Barwick and Scholes Community Fund

// What we do

Every year, the organisers of the Leeds Festival (Festival Republic) make a generous contribution to the local community. This includes both a fixed donation and a number of complimentary resident guest tickets.
The resident guest tickets are valid for the entire weekend of the festival and are sold to eligible local residents at a heavily discounted price. The proceeds from the sale of tickets and the fixed donation are then combined to create the Barwick and Scholes Community Fund (BANDSCF).

// Our role

1. Manage the community fund

The Barwick and Scholes Community Fund is made available to qualifying local groups, organisations or projects, and is divided into individual grants. The aim of the grants is to improve the life for all local residents, regardless of their age or interests. Any local group or organisation that resides or operates within the local parish can apply for a grant.
Our responsibilities include; notifying local residents, groups and organisations of the availability of grants, administering and processing applications, responding to enquiries, and issuing grants to successful applicants.
We try to ensure that the community fund is divided and allocated as fairly as possible. We meet as a committee to review and discuss grant applications and to determine which applications will be successful. To ensure impartiality, a final ‘sign off’ for all grant applications is required from Melvin Benn (Managing Director of Festival Republic).

2. Manage resident guest tickets

We manage the sale and distribution of the tickets donated by Festival Republic. These tickets are offered only to local residents (specifically, those residing within the parish of Barwick in Elmet and Scholes).
Our responsibilities include; notifying local residents of ticket availability, administering and processing applications and payments, responding to enquiries, and ensuring tickets are issued to successful applicants.

3. Festival shuttle bus

We organise a shuttle bus for resident ticket holders, giving a safe, affordable and environmentally friendly means of travelling to and from the festival.
The cost of the shuttle bus service is subsidised via a contribitution from the Barwick and Scholes Community Fund.
Please see the ‘getting there’ page for more information.
